Safaga City Tour

Experience authentic Safaga, as if time has stood still.

Safaga history

Highly recommended for those who want to take a closer look at daily life in Safaga.
With its 35.000 inhabitants , Safaga is not so small after all.
Safaga was a seaport connected by a regular cruise ship service line.
The port city was founded between 282 BC and 268 BC, originally named Philotera (Φιλοτέρα) by the Greco-Egyptian pharaoh Ptolemy II Philadelphus, who named the city after his late sister.
With many phosphate mines, it is considered the export center for phosphates.
Later, tourism was added; diving and kitesurfing are especially popular in Safaga.

Safaga City tour:

The guide will take you to the center of Safaga.
We begin by visiting the local greengrocer and bakery.
Then we walk to a cane juice press, where you can enjoy a fresh glass of freshly squeezed cane juice.
We explain the wearing and giving of gold, make a stop at a tailor to order a galabya, and check in on the men playing dominoes.
Then we peek inside a hair salon and barber shop, and we visit a souvenir store where you can enjoy hibiscus or black tea.
Along the way, you’ ll get lots of explanations about Safaga and Egyptian traditions before we return to the hotel.
